New Year Day

Long time ago, there are legends of Peranakan custom left behind when our ancestor were gone. Before they leave us, they were pass down the traditions of Peranakan to their children and they pass down to grandchildren and so on so for. “Peranakan”, “Baba” or “Straits Chinese” all referred to the same people. The women are known as “Nyonyas”. The older ladies are also known as “Bibiks”.

In this 21st century, our elderly face the same dilemma and problem, as the young generations are decline of traditions, the inability to speak the dialect, the growing number of marriages. All these factor lead to the great changes in the culture and uncertainty about the future. The traditions had broken for the least 8-year ago. My families know not much of the custom and traditions but they will carry on the step and way of matriarch. Thing that should carry on and pass down are Malay language, the costumes, right way of respect to the elder and ancestor, music and Food. This New Year, Elderly celebrate the sharing of traditions to young generations. I was watching the elderly bun up one of my cousin hair. The furniture was still in good condition. The custom was worn by my grandaunt look as we were in 19th century. The style of cooking will be held this Friday. There is where my Sambal Udang come in. yeah, well is not a easy task to cook all Nyonyas dish you know. Oh yes, sharing and enjoy moment of memory come again. And sharing the problem and miss out for many months and year. Caring soul and blessing make our relatives come to life. There is a say “to preserve and revitalize the Peranakan culture and traditions through cultural social and literary activities”

Least for all, Happy New Year to everyone.
Wish to all everyone, best in study and well health.
